Who am I? What is my purpose? This is a service for anyone trying to delve deeper into these questions.
What are Archetypes?
Archetypes are identities. We see, judge, and interact with all types of archetypes every day. The businessman, dancer, chef, gardener, healer, hero, artist, teacher, etc.; these are examples of archetypes. Our consciousness is every one of these archetypes. What does that mean exactly? It means that our personal awareness to ourselves and to the world can tap into any one of these identities on any given day.
Your livelihood may not be supported through a dance career, but It doesn’t mean you’ve never danced. Your purpose in life may not be to solely commit to God or prayer, but it doesn’t mean you can’t identify as spiritual. You may not be a scribe archetype where you care deeply about documenting life through videos, photos, and/or words, but it doesn’t mean you don’t do these things. We are capable of most identities. The difference between identities and archetypes is that an archetype will show up many times throughout your life, it will be an identity that deeply resonates with you in some way.
An archetype is something that you cannot help but love/hate or something that you cannot remove from your life. It is WHO you are to the very essence of your soul.
How to Identify an Archetype?
An archetype will animate you. It will be a hell yes or a hell no. Any archetype that makes you say “ah, maybe” with a shoulder shrug is not your archetype. Example. The teacher. If your thoughts are “absolutely not! I would never want to get up and speak in front of/teach a class” chances are it’s an archetype of yours that you’ve yet to tap into. Watch for the “always” and the “nevers.” This is archetype language.
The biggest identifier of an archetype are the patterns. An archetype will have a pattern. Remember, we can pull off any identity, but an archetype will have history in our life. If we go back to the teacher example, as you think upon your life, maybe you’ll remember really enjoying helping friends study, tutoring, playing with younger siblings, explaining ideas and/or theories, watching “how to” or cooking shows, etc., anything that involves being taught or teaching others.
It’s important that we look at archetypes with a very open mind. We need to stretch the archetypes to find all the possible ways that they can be expressed. I’m sure you can find plenty characteristics of a teacher, that exploring is what we do with each archetype.
Once we realize what our archetypes are, we will naturally begin to piece together the reasons for the patterns and behaviors in our lives. We learn to stop fighting who we are for external purposes, and we begin finding all the positive attributes of our archetypes, how we can use them in our favor, and how we can turn them into our personal powers.
The Light and The Shadow Sides of an Archetype
Every archetype has a light side and a shadow side. This means that we could be living in the light attributes of an archetype or the shadow attributes. This realization about archetypes can be one of the biggest bits of awareness to help guide us toward a healthier and higher state of consciousness.
Example. The bully archetype. We hear this archetype and we can immediately think up all the ugly shadow traits, but can you also see the light attributes? This is a great question for how we judge each other in general. Yes, there will always be negative attributes in everyone, some worse than others, but are you capable of seeing the positive things through the ugly mask? Something to think about.
The bully’s light side is the inner coward. Behind every bully is a coward. The deeper issue with the bully archetype is that they are often “backed down” from what they really want because of some underlining fear. The bully is all about fear. They lash out through anger instead of vulnerability. Some of us need a bully so that we can own our deepest fears. If never a bully, we could go our entire lives as the coward, and if not one bully, there will be two, three, four, etc. until we conquer what’s really attracting the bully.
Reminder: to be conscious means to be aware. To be aware is to be healthier, happier, more in control from external factors. The awareness of living in a shadow archetype could bring many bad patterns and behaviors to an end. Awareness is the first necessary step.
How Many Archetypes Do I Have?
As mentioned earlier on this page, our consciousness does know every archetype; however, there are about 12 that make up the complexity of who we are.
Four of these are archetypes that everyone possessions. Before knowing anything about anyone, you can trust that you share four of the same archetypes, isn’t that fascinating? These archetypes are the four that make up “the survival family”: the victim, saboteur, prostitute, and the child. We are all each of these and I will go over what each one means in our session.
That leaves eight archetypes to find. Eight personal powers to help guide you through life’s obstacles as well as to help you find your soul’s purpose.
What to Expect?
An archetype session involves you, me, a 78-card deck of archetype cards, and a reference sheet for you to take home. It’s your choice if you would like me to muscle test for your archetypes or if you would like to go through the process of identifying them together. I believe the power of choice is important in this type of work, but if you haven’t done much inner work, it may be difficult for you to know what archetypes you are within a reasonable amount of time, which is when we could use the aid of muscle testing. (If you don’t know what muscle testing is, please read about it, it’s listed under my services.)
A reading is typically between one hour and three. It all depends on how much you want to explore together. Keep in mind, we could always schedule follow up archetype sessions if you’d like my assistance connecting your life patterns to your archetypes.
When you leave, you will forever be left with the gift of understanding yourself better and the reasons why you may/or may not do things a certain way.
