Cupping is alternative therapy that uses negative pressure (suction) to help aid the body from discomfort and toxins. Cupping has the ability to pull from 4″ within the body, pulling fluids and toxins from deeper tissues and surrounding cell space to more superficial muscles for repair. In addition, this suction allows adhesions within the tissue to release. Adhesions are any two tissues (including organs) that are stuck together prohibiting oxygen, blood flow, and mobility. When we experience trigger points (or knots) within the muscles, this is a type of adhesion, muscle fibers have stuck together causing that constant discomfort.
Types of Toxins/Wastes that Cupping Releases
- Old Red Blood Cells (from muscle damage or past surgeries)
- Metabolic Waste (phosphates, sulfates, any materials that were in surplus (or toxins) during metabolic processes such as cellular respiration)
- Cellular Waste ( lactic acid, acetic acid, carbon dioxide, ammonia, etc. )
- Pharmaceutical Drugs
- Foreign Debris (stitches, etc.)
- Heavy Metals (from foods, water, body products, industrial chemicals, etc.)
- Smoke (our skin is permeable meaning it is possible for 1st and 2nd hand smoke to be absorbed)
Benefits of Cupping
- Increases blood circulation (even to muscles with complete stagnation)
- Pulls toxins and waste from tissues and organs
- Creates separation in stuck tissues helping to relieve triggers points and tension and increasing flexibility
- Promotes cell repair and new connective tissue
- Promotes lymphatic drainage
- Reduces inflammation (there are contraindications for certain injuries, but the negative pressure (suction) brings white blood cells, fibroblasts (help heal wounds), and important chemicals to the area)
The benefits of cupping are very wide and can be discussed more closely depending on your body’s needs. This service can be incorporated into a massage session for localized pain, or it be a full body therapy. Duration will depend on needs, but will range from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
