Depth Psychology: Overview

I have a holistic and depth approach to my work with mental health. I chose a nonclinical psychology program to offer a perspective that is root-driven rather than pathology-driven. I see symptomology as a form of unconscious expression that can help navigate unresolved conflict. I’m here to walk beside you toward the light with safety and understanding. I can help with understanding patterns, unconscious behaviors, grief, integration of shadow, processing experiences, relearning emotions, trusting emotions, and conflict resolution. I believe in your ability to find internal balance in a holistic manner.

Framework

I use a depth psychology framework that focuses on unconscious content as a means to integrate repressed parts of the self for personal growth and wholeness. Unconscious content (childhood memories, behaviors, painful emotions, unaccepted desires, etc.) is often the motive behind many of our patterns and heightened reactions. We basically have this part of our psyche that is completely hidden, kind of like our dream material (we can’t just choose to access it and have a look in), so even though the contents of the unconscious are hidden, we are constantly acting them out through impulsive decisions, big emotional reactions, unhealthy behaviors, and even slips of tongue. By integrating the unconscious content, we begin to expand our perspective about others and find more acceptance and compassion within the self.

A concept that is unique to depth psychology is that “psyche is image”— the soul communicates through images. By tracking images, we can begin to piece together a “blueprint” of our soul’s calling. We can explore the images of imagination, symbols, dreams, archetypal patterns, and artwork, and these images help us make sense of the unconscious content (as mentioned above). Transformation from a depth lens would look like living a more authentic experience that aligns with purpose from your own unique individuality.
